What is Microblading?

Microblading is a semi-permanent makeup for the eyebrows. It is also known as eyebrow embroidery, microstroking and feather touch. It is a form of permanent makeup that provides a means to partially or fully camouflage missing eyebrow hair with the appearance of simulated hair using fine deposits of cosmetic tattoo pigments. We use a hand-held, disposable, sterile blade as well as high quality pigments to create the finest hair strokes you can imagine.

How long does it last?

Up to 2 years depending on skin type, oiliness and aftercare. Results will vary from person to person. No guarantee can be made in regards to pigment retention as everyone’s skin is different. Microblading typically heals up to 50% lighter. It is important to understand that this is a two-step procedure which includes your initial session and then your touch up session 8-10 weeks later.

Does it hurt?

A topical anesthetic is applied 25 minutes prior to your procedure to ease discomfort. It will be reapplied during the procedure and most end up completely numb. It is generally very tolerable.

Am I a candidate for it?

Although it is possible to retain pigment if any of the below applies to you, please be aware that your retention rate is typically lower than those without these conditions:

• Large pores on the forehead
• Someone with very dark existing permanent makeup.
• Severely oily skin (Pigment will look more solid than like hair strokes and may not last as long)
• Someone who sweats a lot
• Diabetes type 1 or 2 (Prone to slow healing and infection, color may or may not retain well)
• Have Thyroid/Graves disease (Medication may cause pigment to not retain properly)

How long does the procedure take?

Your first session takes about two hours which includes your consultation, numbing and photo time.  The blading process itself usually takes about 45 minutes.

What do I have to do prior to my procedure?

2 Weeks Prior: Discontinue skincare products with Vitamin A (Retinol, Retinoic Acid) and AHA’s around the treatment area and after your procedure.  Please refrain from getting injections (Botox or fillers) in the procedure area within the two weeks prior to your appointment.

1 Week Prior: No waxing, laser or electrolysis one week prior.

3 Days Prior: Please avoid blood thinners 3 days prior to your treatment such as Advil, Aleve, Bufferin, Excedrin, Motrin and Nuprin, as well as aspirin. Supplements that are natural blood thinners must also be avoided (Turmeric, Vitamin E, Ginger, Cinnamon and Cayenne Peppers). Tylenol is ok for use if pain medicine is needed. If you are on prescription blood thinners your physician must give you clearance to stop, prior to stopping.

1 Day Prior: Avoid excessive drinking 24 hours prior

Day of Procedure: On the day of your procedure, please avoid alcohol and caffeine (including coffee).  For smokers, please know the longer you can refrain from smoking prior to your procedure the better the end result will be.  Smoking can cause excessive bleeding.  The more you bleed, the less you will retain the ink and chances of scabbing increase.

What do I have to do after my procedure?

Microblading Aftercare

It is essential that you follow these instructions after your microblading session:

Day of Procedure:  After your blading procedure you will be sent home with an aftercare kit and detailed instructions.  You will blot the treated area with sterile water every 1-2 hours and apply a thin ointment prior to bed.  Please do not excessively sweat or wipe the area.

Day 1-2 Post Procedure:  You will cleanse the area twice a day with sterile water.  Do not scrub and be sure to use gentle movements with clean fingers when cleansing the area.  Ointment is not applied in the evening on these two days unless the area is feeling very tight.

Day 3-7 Post Procedure: Cleanse the area twice a day with a mild/non-exfoliating cleanser.

The following must be avoided during the 7 days post-microblading procedure:
• Increased sweating and swimming
• Hot sauna, hot bath or Jacuzzi
• Sun tanning or salon tanning (use SPF 30+)
• Any laser or chemical treatments/peels
• Scratching the micro pigmented area
• Drinking alcohol in excess as it may lead to slow healing of wounds
• Driving in open air vehicles such as convertibles, boats, bicycles or motorcycles.
• Do not wax your eyebrows for two weeks post treatment. Tweezing is ok 7 days out.

What to expect after your Microblading session:
• Your new temporary eyebrow will go through several phases during the healing cycle. The pigment will appear very sharp and dark immediately after the procedure. This is because the pigment is still sitting on top of your skin and has not yet settled in completely.
• Day 2 is sometimes difficult. This is normal. Hang in there! The color of the pigment will soften gradually. Once the healing of the skin starts taking place it will look like dandruff flakes or dry skin. This might give you the impression that the color pigment is fading too quickly; however, usually this is just superficial color and dry skin being naturally removed from your eyebrows.
• Once completely healed and aftercare is completed, I advise applying a layer of sunscreen SPF 30+ on your eyebrows when exposed to the sun. Sun exposure might cause the color pigment to fade away more quickly. If you start to scab, do not pick at it. I know it itches; however, please just let them heal. Your heal time could be extended if you pick! This can also happen due to skin typing.
• A touch up appointment is recommended 8 weeks post initial procedure and then once a year after that.

TIP: Makeup (foundation/powder) will hide your new brows and make them appear foggy.  After applying your makeup, run a wet Q-tip over the brows to wipe away the makeup.  Then, rub the other side of the Q-tip over them to dry the area.

How much does it cost?

The cost is $550 and includes your first touch up 8-10 weeks later ($250 value).

How often do I have to do touch ups?

Annual touch ups are recommended. Touch ups scheduled within one year of their initial treatment are $250.  This reduced/touch up price is only offered when I am touching up my own work.
